Tasting Notes

Wire Works Port Cask

Founded in 2016 in Derbyshire, England, White Peak Distillery has been crafting some impressive whiskies using locally sourced English barley, a unique live yeast blend, long fermentation times, and hand-built copper pot stills. Port Cask is the third permanent release in the distillery’s newly renamed Provenance Core Range, joining Caduro and Bourbon Barrel. It’s a lightly peated whisky finished in Tawny Port barriques from Dias Cooperage. Bottled at 50.2% ABV, non-chill filtered, and naturally coloured.

NoseFull-bodied and sweet from the very first sniff. Dark honey, malted barley, salted caramel, and chocolate pudding aromas are joined by cinnamon, oak, and red fruits.
PalateJust like on the nose, it’s rich and creamy on the palate. Flavors of strawberry, cherry, and grape are followed by cinnamon, oak, and caramel. It has a sweet, mouth-coating texture, with gentle smoky nuances lingering in the background.
FinishMedium length, with notes of oak, cinnamon, and red fruits.
Overall:A beautifully balanced and aromatic expression that perfectly represents the quality level English whiskies have reached. Ideal for those who enjoy profiles combining Port cask sweetness and subtle peat smoke.
